John A This movie is over 20 years old and the special effects are extremely impressive. I think people are giving fewer stars because they’re comparing it with modern day films that have more sophisticated technology to create special effects. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/01/24 Full Review Camden K It’s a great movie, many people love to trash it, and I’m not sure why exactly. It wasn’t a masterpiece, but it was a solid sci-fi thriller movie. In my opinion, it’s better than the 1953 movie. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review Frank S Offensively stupid. Plot armor was cranked up to 11 and broke immersion more than the giant tripod monsters. The actors did what they could. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/23/24 Full Review Conrad C The CGI and action make the movie enjoyable enough to watch, but the characters contribute nothing to the film. Each of them are annoying in their own way, significantly lowering the viewers investment since it's hard to get attached to their personalities. A main character with some hard-earned survival skills would have made this movie more believable, as the characters stagger from one disaster to another surviving against all odds mostly by luck. The ending of the movie does not feel earned. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/21/24 Full Review John B Don’t waste your time with this horribly rotten movie Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/06/24 Full Review Bernadette J First time watching in October 2024. Liked the beginning, but something is missing that the beginning gave and lost throughout the movie. Special effects is pretty scary. This 2005 movie aliens reminded me of the "Alien" and "Aliens" movies creature, somewhat. Left me empty at the end, no real future to believe in. After watching this remake, I prefer the original movie made in 1953, which I have own the DVD and had for years.and watched over and over, and original movie gave a hopeful realistic meaning throughout. The ex-wife, who remarried and is pregnant and her family still alive with new husband, look like nothing happened much to them. Maybe a little shaken. Not impressed. They weren't running through the streets and through hillsides. How come those townhouses are still standing? The ex-wife comes out at end of movie wearing a shaggy shawl, face a little dirty. If these aliens are doing mass destruction, shouldn't the ex-wife and her family and new husband venture out from under some rubble? I sped through most of this 2005 version. Won't watch again. Que sera, sera. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/07/24 Full Review Read all reviews
