The Best Trench Coats for Paris (1)

A classic trench coat is at the top of my favorite wardrobe staples. The trench coat comes in various colors, style variations, and price points. The trench coat is a style French women wear in Paris in spring and fall and can instantly make you feel pulled together. As my top 5 series continues, this post is an edit of the best trench coats for Paris available at different retailers.

Trench Coat Styling Tips

A trench coat can be styled in many different ways. Belt it for a cinched waist look. If you want to leave the jacket open, loop and tie the belt in the back, which still helps give a belted look appearance around your waist and makes you appear slimmer. One of the reasons why I love this classic French wardrobe staple is it makes me feel pulled together effortlessly.

Pair with ballet flats, loafers, or sneakers and jeans for the classic French girl style.

The J.Crew trench coat is one of my favorite options in this post. The original trench coat from J.Crew always ran large, and it was hard to size. They could never get it right. They have updated the original 2011 style with the same water-repellant fabric and adjustable belted waist and added a removable hood. Plus, it has an adorable inside pocket perfect for a small wallet. The style is a little more relaxed, making it easy to wear in the sunshine or rain.

The coat is priced similarly to the Sézane coat at $348. It is typically excluded from sales, but it gets included on rare occasions, so if you have your eye on it and can be patient, it’s worth the wait. Add it to your cart and check back often.

One of the features I love about this coat is that it is size-inclusive to size 24. They also offer petite sizing. I ordered this coat and would recommend sizing up one.

While some J.Crew styles don’t hold up in quality, their jackets have held the test of time and are a smart investment purchase for your wardrobe.

Sézane Scott Trench Coat

The Sézane Scott trench coat is an investment piece at a higher price than others included in this post. I have had mine for almost two years, and I love it. Regarding quality, it has held up great over the years and still looks as good as the day I bought it. The coat has gotten the cost-per-wear investment. I have worn it in Paris during the spring and fall through the end of October. You can pair it with a scarf and extra layers to keep you warm. The Sézane coat runs true to size, and I have a 4/36. For a more oversized fit, size up one size. One of my favorite coat features is the button detail down the back and button closures on the wrists.

This trench coat is a classic style and one of the most common Parisian trench coats around Paris. The Sézane Scott trench coats are lined with organic water-repellant material. While the trench coat is not a raincoat, it does help protect you on rainy days, which can happen at any time in Paris, especially in the spring. In terms of length, the coat hits at the knees.

The coat comes in three colors: navy and khaki, which is more of an olive green color. Both are beautiful, and I would take all three if I could. This style sells out often and will be restocked if you miss out. Check back or sign up for the brand’s restock alerts directly on the site.

Update: A new trench coat called the Claude arrived from Sézane. This one sells out very quickly. If you can’t grab it, put an alert on your account. They add new inventory on Wednesdays and Sundays, so watch out. So many readers message me about this style and ask for details when it will be back in stock.

Old Navy Trench Coat

The Old Navy trench coat is a great budget-friendly option for your spring wardrobe that still captures the Parisian style without breaking the bank. With a removable waist belt and double-breasted design, this style has become a reader favorite. The coat is size-inclusive, goes up to a 4X, and is under $50. This style is a lightweight trench coat made of 75% polyester and hits at the midcalf.

J.Crew Factory Trench Coat

Pro tip: if the J.Crew classic style trench coat isn’t in your budget, J.Crew Factory is an excellent resource with a similar style for affordable French trench coats. I love the look of this one, and it is size-inclusive, going up to a 24. The jacket has double-breasted buttons, one of the timeless details for a trench coat. It’s the perfect color for mixing with brown and black. This trench coat is a cotton blend that hits midthigh and runs true to size. $140

Other great options include this Mango water repellant trench coat for $230, sizing up to an XXL.

Petite Trench Coat Option

P.S. Try Ann Taylor for a petite trench coat with the same classic look.
